Parking: There is a small Pilot truck stop at exit 50 and a rest area at mile marker 34.5 south of the Clinton County weigh station.
Alternate Route Information
Coming from Columbus heading toward Cincinnati, take I 70 west out of Columbus instead of I 71 south and take I 70 to exit 44 for I 675 south which puts you out on I 75 south headed toward Cincinnati.
If you want to take I 71, however, take exit 58 for route 72. Turn left off the exit and go 5.9 miles to the red flashing light/stop sign at route 22/route 3. Turn right there. You’ll go into the town of Wilmington- when you get to the edge of town, there will be a Wal-Mart super center on your left. Route 22 will junction with route 73 after 6.2 miles. You’ll continue straight on route 73. You’ll go past a Tractor Supply Company and a Lowes and the road will turn into a one-way road. You’re still following 73. You’ll continue through Wilmington, past the route 68 truck route. You could take route 68 back to the freeway at this point, but it is shorter to continue straight on route 73. You’ll come to the light at Wayne Road where there is a sign “to I 71.” There is an Ameristop on the north west corner of the intersection. You will bear right following route 73 and signs for I 71 south. You’ll go 6 miles on route 73 back to the left turn onto the ramp for I 71 south. The total mileage on the bypass route is 21.8 miles compared to roughly 13 freeway miles. There are no low bridges or marked weight limits on this route.
