Alternate Route Information
When you cross the border into Ohio from Indiana, in 5 miles you will see the turn off for route 49 north to Payne. Do not take this. Go another 1.4 miles to the right turn for route 49 south to Convoy. When you make the right turn you will be right in front of the “Weigh Station 1 Mile” sign. Go through the town of Convoy (stay straight at the light) and continue on to route 224. In Convoy, just south of the red light, there is a Do It Best Hardware store on the left. There is also a raised rail road crossing in the town of Convoy- low trailers need to be aware of this. You will be on route 49 south 6.1 miles. When you get to the junction of route 224, there will be a sign straight ahead that says “no trucks.” In other words, you have to turn left or right. You will make the left turn to follow route 224 east. Route 224 eventually curves back around to route 30 in 6.8 miles. You will go through the flashing yellow light and when the roadway widens to two lanes, stay in the right lane to get on route 30 headed east. 4.3 miles after turning on to route 224 from route 49, you will see a right turn that is marked “to Van Wert.” If you are headed toward Van Wert and route 127, we still suggest you continue on route 224 east to route 30 and take that over to 127. It is longer, but the road that takes you over to Van Wert is somewhat residential (it is not marked NO TRUCKS and there are trucks making deliveries etc), but it is very poorly marked and gets fairly congested. It will be a lot easier to just take the suggested routing.
Parking: There is a Sunoco with truck parking, a Utility trailer and repair shop and a Mack/Volvo dealer on route 30 at the junction with I 469 west of the Van Wert County weigh station. There isn’t anywhere to park before you get to the station unless you pull onto the shoulder. There is a Flying J and a Pilot truck stop on route 30 at the junction of I 75 east of the truck scale.
