Parking: There is a rest area just past the weigh station and a Pilot at exit 109 south of the Savannah scale.
Alternate Route Information
From I 95 south, take exit 5 for route 17 south. This is a turnaround exit, so when you come off the exit you’ll turn to the right and go over the freeway. You’ll take route 17 all the way into Savannah- 16.6 miles to I 16 west. 16 west will take you to I 95 south in 7.8 miles. This is a fantastic route. For more detail, read on.
For the first 6.1 miles, route 17 is a 4 lane road. At that point, another lane comes in for an exit only for route 170. Do not take that lane- stay in the left 2 lanes following route 17. Then route 17 turns from a 4 lane to a 2 lane. In another 2.6 miles, you’ll come to a yellow flashing light for route 170 alternate. Continue straight- but be aware that there may be a lot of traffic turning on or off of route 17 here. You’ll come to the Georgia border after you come onto a low bridge. You’ll then come to a tall bridge crossing into Savannah. When you get onto the low bridge, route 17 turns back into a 4 lane, but once you cross over both bridges, the right lane turns into an exit only so you’ll want to either stay in the left lane or be ready to get back into the left lane when you get most of the way across the tall bridge. Following signs for route 17 will put you out onto I 16 west. You don’t exit, you don’t turn. You just follow the roadway and it will put you onto I 16 going the right direction- toward I 95.
